July 28, 2016 - Local

In this week’s resident spotlight, we speak to local artist Anna Bell of Monrovia.

The Pasadenoid:

Hi Anna, thanks for speaking to us.

Anna:

Of course.

The Pasadenoid:

So tell us about your latest work.

Anna:

I painted a giraffe.

The Pasadenoid:

Ah…cool! Can we see it?

Anna:

Ok.

The Pasadenoid:

Huh. This is…interesting.

Anna:

You like it?

The Pasadenoid:

Yeah…it’s like…artistic, I guess.

Anna:

Yes! It is, isn’t it?

The Pasadenoid:

What inspired this work?

Anna:

It was inspired by my love of giraffes.

The Pasadenoid:

Gotcha. And how much is it selling for?

Anna:

$12,300.

The Pasadenoid:

…Yeesh. That’s a lot.

Anna:

You think?

The Pasadenoid:

Well, I mean, it’s a fine painting of a giraffe. But who is going to pay that much?

Anna:

I was hoping an art collector.

The Pasadenoid:

Do you ever actually sell any of your paintings?

Anna:

Well…no.

The Pasadenoid:

Sorry, I didn’t mean to offend.

Anna:

Well you did.

The Pasadenoid:

I’m sorry, I was just wondering-

Anna:

Wondering how a talent-less hack like me can support herself?

The Pasadenoid:

No, I-

Anna:

Well the answer is I can’t. I have so much debt because I’ve devoted my entire savings to art school and can’t make a dime off my work.

The Pasadenoid:

I’m sorry.

Anna:

I suck! I am worse than just an average person at painting.

The Pasadenoid:

No, that’s not true! I really liked the giraffe!

Anna:

You did?

The Pasadenoid:

Absolutely.

Anna:

So you’ll buy it?

The Pasadenoid:

Umm…

Anna:

Oh, that means so much to me that you would do that!

The Pasadenoid:

No, um, I don’t want to-

Anna:

You are a wonderful humor magazine. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

The Pasadenoid:

I don’t know if…

Anna:

This is the happiest I have felt in years. I have been so depressed and suicidal.

The Pasadenoid:

Oh geez.

Anna:

And I was just getting ready to give up. Give up on everything. But now I finally have hope.

The Pasadenoid:

Ah crap. Umm…shit. Ok. I have to call my wife. She’s going to kill me. Shit. This interview is over.
