President Obama had some strong words for the country today. I didn’t catch the whole speech because a rerun of Night Court was on at the same time, but basically I get the feeling he wants to take guns away from violent criminals.
Well, Mr. President, I have a question for you. If a mentally-ill and pathologically violent individual can’t buy a gun in the United States, who is going to shoot and kill me?
Honestly, Obama, tell me who?
I used to walk around town in a state of extreme paranoia, wearing body armor and checking for bulges in the pockets of every person I came across. I used to dive behind trash cans when hearing any sound that slightly resembled a gunshot, ducking for covering before screaming and calling 911 in a frenzy.
So what am I supposed to do now? Saunter around town like a jackass? Act like there’s not a good chance I’m going to be shot and killed by some schizophrenic ex-convict who got lost on the way to his parole hearing?
Well shame on you, Mr. President. America has a long history of people getting shot by accident or for no just reason whatsoever. We’re just going to give up on that now? We’re just going to act like all the other countries on earth who don’t have this problem?
The president wants to ban people who want to murder us from getting guns. That’s all fine and dandy. But at the end of the day, I have to ask:
If those people can’t kill me, who will?
